Marc F. Plattner is the founding Co-Editor of the Journal of Democracy and Co-Chair of the Research Council of the International Forum for Democratic Studies. Until 2016 Mr. Plattner served as NED’s Vice President for research and studies. During the 2002–2003 academic year, Mr. Plattner was a visiting professor at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. He is the author of Democracy Without Borders? Global Challenges to Liberal Democracy (2008) and Rousseau’s State of Nature (1979), a study of the political thought of Jean Jacques Rousseau. Mr. Plattner graduated summa cum laude from Yale University and received his Ph.D. in government from Cornell University, where his principal area of study was political philosophy.
