Ileana Álvarez is the Director of the independent magazine Alas Tensas, the first feminist publication in Cuba. She is a writer, essayist, and journalist; she has been a key personality in the study and preservation of Cuban literature, especially concerning works written by women. Ms. Álvarez has written numerous articles on society and culture for both Cuban and international magazines and is the author of several books. She has received over 30 awards for her poems, essays, and literary investigations. She graduated from the Central University of Las Villas in Cuba with degree in Linguistics.
