Akeel Bilgrami is a Professor at Columbia University in New York. He also holds a Professorial Fellowship at the Institute of Social Justice in Sydney, Australia. Previously Dr. Bilgrami has received grants and awards from The National Endowment of the Humanities, The Mellon Foundation, The Ford Foundation, The Luce Foundation, The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, and New York Public Library. He has published works on the topics of religious belief, secularism, self-knowledge, and many more—but his long-term work is focused on the relations between practical reasons, politics and spiritual values. Dr. Bilgrami received his Bachelor’s degree in English literature from Bombay University and attended Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar where he received the second Bachelor degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. He obtained a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Chicago.
