Agnieszka Holland is a leading Polish director and screenwriter. She has received three Oscar nominations for the films Bittere Ernte (1985), Europa Europa (1990) and In Darkness (2011). In 2013, she created a three-part drama called Burning Bush about the act of Jan Palach, who set himself on fire in January 1969 to protest against the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia. Holland graduated from the The Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU).
