Gulnara Shahinian is an international expert on human rights and people trafficking and the founder and Chair of Democracy Today. During the years 2008–2015, she served as the UN Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery. Since 2009 she works as an expert on Action Against Trafficking in Human Beings in the Council of Europe.
