NGO Market & United Islands of Prague

June 23, 2021

The NGO Market will take part in United Islands on Saturday, June 26, 2021, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m

We cordially invite you to a debate entitled "And who will you benefit from? The role of civil society and non-profit organizations", which will take place in Kampa, Prague

With interesting guests, we will take a closer look at the current state of civil society in the Czech Republic, as well as its role and importance.

In his New Year's address in 1994, Václav Havel stated: "A modern democratic state cannot consist - simply put - only of the state administration, political parties and private enterprises. It must open up to citizens a varied fan of possibilities to engage not only privately, but also publicly to develop various types of civic coexistence, solidarity and participation. Of course, not only self-governing bodies and non-profit organisations, but also churches, trade unions, and various citizen associations, as associations and clubs play an irreplaceable role in the civil society." Civil society is therefore an essential tool for communication, problem-solving, and de-escalation of tensions within society. What is the current situation and state of civil society of the 21st century? What role do non-profit organisations themselves play? What do nonprofits really solve and where do they help? Who, how and above all why? Should we want to be more involved in the work of non-profit organisations and in supporting the development of civil society? What is their relationship with other representatives of civil society - are they complementary? Do their activities lead to the sustainability of our company? What role do each of us have?
