The pluralistic model of liberal democracy requires education, cultural capital, a strong civil society and a strong middle class – which is not true everywhere. Only a minority of today’s liberal democracies can deliver something reasonable, most of the countries are becoming rather parodies of liberal democracies. Socially, economically and environmentally, we live on debt and we are heading towards something you might call a zero point. However, if we recover the original ideals and virtues of liberal democracy, not only we will be able to maintain it, but it will work even better, says Slovak sociologist, Michal Vašečka.
