Through this pandemic, Taiwan has shown that it is able to assist countries around the world with expertise, medical supplies, and technology. The country alerted the WHO very early on that the new disease can be contagious between human beings. Also, within months, Taiwan became the second largest world producer of face masks. Beijing ban on Chinese tourists to travel to Taiwan, intended to punish the Taipei government, was a blessing in disguise as it stemmed the spread of COVID-19. The information warfare from China during the crisis alerted Taiwanese citizens to the effort by Beijing to divide them. Democratic transparency and regularly informing the public helped prevent panic, says Ketty W. Chen, the Acting President of the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy.

Forum 2000 Foundation is online in times of pandemic. What will be the impact of COVID-19 on our society, democracy and economy? Join our #Forum2000online Chat and listen to the interviews with experts, activists, academics and thinkers who are answering what we all want to know.

Interviews will be delivered two times a week on our YouTube channel!
