Brazilian and Mexican leaders treat the crisis as a conspiracy against their governments and Bolsonaro still keeps denying the pandemic. The Latin American prisons are overcrowded, with unsanitary conditions and lack of potable water. There are approximately 5 million of Venezuelan migrants, most of them in Colombia. Also, the situation in the Venezuelan hospitals is devastating - a patient needs to bring at least 35 liters of water to be admitted. To allow the UN to freely operate, the international community has to exert pressure on Maduro’s dictatorship, says José Miguel Vivanco, the executive director of the Human Rights Watch Americas division.
