“Internet shutdown in Congo is now part of a tradition. The Republic of the Congo was one of the first countries in the world to use that technique,“ says Andréa Ngombet about 3-days-long Internet shutdown during elections in the Republic of the Congo.
Andréa Ngombet is a civil society leader, a One Young World Ambassador and was one of the candidates for President of the Republic of Congo in 2021 who previously served as Global Coordinator of the #Sassoufit Collective advocating for Democracy and Rule of Law. He is also an international expert on kleptocracy issues, working with major NGOs and investigative media.
In our #Forum2000online Chat, Mr Ngombet talks about elections in the Republic of Congo that had taken place just a few days ago. The elections were followed by a tragedy as the main opposition candidate died of Covid-19 right after the election day. What are the results?
“They cook the result – they always cook the result – it´s not something which comes out of the ballot box.“
The interview was recorded on March 23, 2021 and moderated by Arzu Geybulla, Columnist and Writer from Azerbaijan.
