Book “The View from Prague: The Expectations of World Leaders at the Dawn of the 21st Century”
On June 11th, a cocktail took place at the private residency of Mr. Karel Schwarzenberg for the launching of Václav Havel and contributing authors’ publication “The View from Prague: The Expectations of World Leaders at the Dawn of the 21st Century”.
The book, recently published by Central European University Press, is an analysis of the Forum 2000 conferences that have been taking place in Prague since 1997. The book opens with Václav Havel’s essay on the spiritual preconditions for the global survival of humankind and reflections on the state of the world we have inherited and hopes for the future. Individual authors from the anthology summarize the discussions of Forum 2000 delegates on the transformation of the role of religion in the globalized world, on ecological problems and on economic outlooks at the dawn of the new century. The book is brought to a close by Václav Havel’s reflection on the deeper meaning and aim of the Forum 2000 conferences.
