The Jubilee Conference of the Czech-German Discussion Forum on the 20th Anniversary of the Czech-German Declaration

January 30, 2017, Prague, Liechtenstein Palace

The Forum 2000 Foundation, in cooperation with the Czech-German Discussion Forum, organized the Jubilee Conference on the 20th Anniversary of the Czech-German Declaration signature in 1997, held on January 30, 2017 in Prague.

The Czech-German Declaration on mutual relations and their on-going development helped to solve some of the more controversial historical issues in Czech-German relations. At the same time, the Declaration allowed for the creation of space to further integrate the partnership, in the spirit of common European values. During the conference, the creation of the Declaration and its 20-year history was discussed, as well as the future vision of common relations. The results of public polls regarding mutual relations, which were conducted in the second half of 2016 in the Czech Republic and Germany, were also presented.

The conference was financed by the Czech-German Future Fund.

The celebrations included a festive evening concert attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lubomír Zaorálek. The evening was organized by the Czech and German Ministries of Foreign Affairs at the Karolinum. Keynote speech was delivered by historian and politician Ivan Krastev.
