Saskia Sassen is the Robert S. Lynd Professor of Sociology at Columbia University and a member and former chair of its Committee on Global Thought. She is a student of cities, immigration, and states in the world economy, with inequality, gendering and digitization as three key variables running through her work. Her published books, translated into over 20 languages, include Territory, Authority, Rights: From Medieval to Global Assemblages (2006), Expulsions: Brutality and Complexity in the Global Economy (2014) and Ungoverned Territories? (2018). She is the recipient of multiple Doctor Honoris Causa and several other honors, among them most recently the 2020 Geneva Picciotto Prize.
