Martin Ortega is a Professor of International Law and International Relations at Complutense University in Madrid and Senior Associate Analyst at Elcano Royal Institute, the Spanish leading think-tank. Between 2007-2009 he was Head of Policy Planning at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Between 2002-2007 he was a Senior Research Fellow at the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) in Paris. Prior to joining the EU Institute he conducted research at St Antony’s College, Oxford University. He is the author of Building the EU’s contribution to global governance (2007) and Derecho Global (2014).
