Since June 2019, Maia Sandu serves as the Prime Minister of Moldova. In the fall of 2016, Ms. Sandu participated in the presidential elections as the joint candidate of the pro-European opposition. Though the elections were neither free nor fair, she received 47.89 % of the vote during the second round of the elections. Ms. Sandu served as the Minister of Education from 2012 until 2015. Her appointment as Prime Minister during the Summer of 2015 was blocked by oligarchic interest groups. Ms. Sandu has also worked as an advisor to the Executive Director of the World Bank (2010–2012) and for the Ministry of Economy of Moldova. Ms. Sandu graduated from Harvard University.
