Joshua Wong is a Hong Kong student activist and politician. He served as the secretary-general for pro-democratic Demosistō party, which existed until the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law in June 2020. He also had a pivotal role in the 2014 Hong Kong protests and in the Umbrella Movement. This resulted in his nomination for Person of the Year 2014 by Time magazine. In 2017, Mr. Wong was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. He was convicted and jailed multiple times for his participation in protests. Joshua Wong is known worldwide for his outspoken advocacy for democratic reforms in Hong Kong. He also played a major role in persuading U.S. politicians to pass the Hong Kong Human Rights Act.
