Can Dündar is a Turkish journalist, columnist and documentarian. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the Turkish daily newspaper Cumhuriyet until August 2016. In July 2016, he emigrated to Germany after having served 92 days in prison. He was originally sentenced to 5 years and 10 months of imprisonment after Cumhuriyet published a report regarding the Turkish Intelligence Service’s involvement in the Syrian war. In exile, he founded the website called #Özgürüz. He is a columnist for Die Zeit and the author of over 40 books. His last book, Tut Was!, was published in Germany in 2018. Can Dündar holds a PhD in Political science.
