Egypt Ahmed Maher was invited to the Forum 2000 Conference, but is unable to attend as he is imprisoned for political reasons. Egyptian blogger, activist, and Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, Mr. Maher is the Founder and Chief Coordinator of the April 6 Youth Movement (A6YM), a pro-democracy youth movement in Egypt. A6YM was one of the most important organizers of the 18-day peaceful uprising that culminated in President Hosni Mubarak’s departure in 2011. In December 2013 he was sentenced to three years in prison for protests against the Egyptian military government.
