The Forum 2000 Foundation expresses its deep concern about the fate of the international society and the human rights centre Memorial in the context of the attempted closure by the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor of the City of Moscow. We urge that the false charges against Memorial be dropped and that this respected organisation be allowed to continue its valuable work.
The Memorial is an exceptional society and the oldest Russian NGO, which was founded and developed thanks to the work of one of Russia's greatest human rights activists, Andrei Sakharov. It is a cornerstone of Russian civil society, which plays a vital role in defending civil rights and preserving the memory of political repression.
