Remembering Frederik Willem de Klerk

November 11, 2021

Frederik Willem de Klerk (18 March 1936 – 11 November 2021) former President, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and a wonderful friend, passed away today aged 85 after a battle with cancer. Mr De Klerk was member of the International Advisory Board of the Forum 2000 Foundation and our long-time supporter.

Frederik Willem De Klerk was a South African politician, who served as state president of South Africa from 1989 to 1994. He initiated and co-managed the process that abolished apartheid and culminated in South Africa’s non-racial constitutional democracy in 1994. He won the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize in 1991, the Prince of Asturias Award in 1992 and shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 with Nelson Mandela for their work to end the apartheid. He founded the FW de Klerk Foundation, dedicated to the development of positive relations among South Africa’s diverse communities.

Dear President De Klerk, we will miss you very much
