Globalization – Experiences, Instruments, Procedures

2nd Forum 2000 Conference
October 11–14, 1998, Prague

he second Forum 2000 conference was held at Prague Castle in October 1998 and was again attended by many prominent personalities from all parts of the world who came together to discuss the risks facing the world at the present time and identify hopeful signs. On that occasion, politicians, scientists, academics, economists and representatives of the world's religions focused their minds on the problem of globalization, particularly in terms of international instruments and procedures and in the light of experience. Following up the efforts of the 1997 conference to appraise the state of humankind at the turn of the millennium, the 1998 Forum looked more closely at the opportunities and risks associated with globalization.

President Václav Havel once more opened the conference and reaffirmed the importance of the Prague meetings as a means of linking together the great issues of the day. Global civilization was facing many threats that needed to be identified and reflected upon. Humanity had to accept responsibility for the process of globalization and it was necessary to start with oneself.
