 Czech journalist and politician. Former dissident and signatory of Charter 77. Between 1969 – 1984 he spent nine years in prison. Former member of the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, based in Geneva. In 1990 – 1992 he acted as Director General of the Czechoslovak Press Agency and a member of the Federal Assembly of Czechoslovakia. He was also the Czech Government Commissioner for Human Rights. He has been regularly contributing to Pravo daily since 1996.
