Philosopher, former dissident, politician and translator. After Velvet Revolution he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Chamber of Nations and spokesman of the strongest fraction Civic Forum (OF). Member of Czechoslovak Parliament (1990-1992), Minister of Education (1998) and coalition candidate to the office of President of the Czech Republic (2003). He obtained his MA in Anthropology in 1993 and Ph.D. in Philosophy in 1996 and has been full Professor of Philosophy since 2000. He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University in Prague (2000-2007).
