“Today it is very necessary to have a GLOBAL debate on the future of our civilization. Your Forum 2000 Conferences are in my view an essential part of this discussion.”

Democracy and the Rule of Law

15th Forum 2000 Conference
October 9–11, 2011, Prague

Held traditionally under the auspices of Václav Havel, the fifteenth annual Forum 2000 Conference convened over 120 global leaders from politics, academia, religion, business and civil society to discuss key issues facing our civilization.

Theme

In 2011 we examined the relationship between the rule of law and democracy. How do rule of law deficits undermine democracy? What is the relationship between the rule of law and individual freedom? What are the limits to state sovereignty and the international community’s right to humanitarian intervention and the responsibility to protect? The conference also looked at the role of corruption and organized crime.

Pre-registration was required to participate as an observer of the conference panels held at Žofín Palace.

We also offered a special category of paid participation as a “premium observer” that went beyond the ordinary level of observer and provided participants the unique opportunity to meet and network with the global leaders who spoke at the conference.

Conference Outputs

On this website, we will post various outputs from the conference. At the moment, you will find video recordings of most panel discussions and other events as well as their summaries, which briefly present the most important and interesting ideas expressed during the debates. You can also read press releases from the conference and, coming soon, you will find links to selected articles and interviews with our delegates. You can also view photographs from the conference.

We will gradually post transcripts of discussions and speeches, which will be published in the Conference Report, due to be released in spring 2012. If you are interested in receiving this report, please contact us at secretariat(at)forum2000.cz.
