Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe

Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (since 2009) and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic (2006–2009). Since 2005, he has been the EU Special Representative for Central Asia with an office in Brussels. He held the office of Director of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) Conflict Prevention Centre (1994–1998) and was OSCE Secretary General (1999–2005). Mr. Kubiš served as Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, as the head of the United Nations Mission of Observers in Tajikistan (1998–1999) and as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the UN (1993–1994) after working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic. He is a graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
