Farish A. Noor is a Malaysian author, historian, political scientist and researcher currently attached to Zentrum Moderner Orient (Centre for Modern Oriental Studies) in Berlin. He is also Affiliated Professor of Asian Studies at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta and Sunan Kalijaga Islamic University of Jogjakarta, Indonesia. Farish Noor's teaching credits include the Centre for Civilisational Dialogue, University of Malaya and the Institute for Islamic Studies, Freie University of Berlin. His research has focused particularly on the political Islam and religio-political networks. His other work also includes the issues of human rights, press freedom and relation of secularism and democracy. In 2005 Dr. Noor was voted as one of the top forty Malaysians who have contributed to the development of post-colonial Malaysia.
