Dr. Pavel Bém has been the Lord Mayor of the City of Prague since 2002, and was re-elected in October 2006. Pavel Bém graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine, Charles University, and continued his medical practice until his first political engagement in 1995. Working at the Office of Government and the Ministry of Interior, he was involved in anti-drug policy development. Between 1998 and 2002, he was the mayor of the district Prague 6 and after the floods in 2002, he was elected Lord Mayor of Prague. In 2004, he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) and since 2006, he has been the Party’s first Vice-Chairman. He is a member of the regional council of the Civic Democratic Party in Prague.
