Jiří Musil


In Memoriam

Professor of Sociology at Charles University, Prague. He was Academic Director of the Central European University in Prague, Professor at CEU Budapest, and first Director of the renewed Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. In 1999, Professor Musil was elected President of the European Sociological Association. He was consultant to the United Nations, UNESCO, International Federation for Housing and Planning and other international professional associations. Professor Musil was author of the study "Fifty years of Urban Sociology in USA and Europe" (2003), co-author of "The Birth of Metropolis. Urbanization of Czech Lands and Europe" (2002) and editor of "End of Czechoslovakia" (1995). He was also Member of the Board of Directors of the Forum 2000 Foundation from its establishment.

Professor Jiří Musil passed away on September 16, 2012.
