Diplomat, Co-drafter of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Human rights advocate, diplomat, and the last living participant involved in the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Mr. Hessel took part in the French Resistance, and is a concentration camp survivor. In 1948, he was involved with the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, together with other members of the UN Commission on Human Rights. He has received the UNESCO/Bilbao Prize for the Promotion of a Culture of Human Rights in 2008. His small book, “Time for Outrage!” (Indignez-vous!), which was first published in French in October 2010 by Indigène editions and which has since been translated into 36 languages, has become an international bestseller.
